Project: Affordable housing in Iraq
Date: 2011 - ongoing
Project size: NA
Client: Ministry of Housing
Services Provided: Architecture and master planning
Affordable housing in Iraq is one of the most pressing issues of the last decades, especially regarding low income families. This scheme aims to find appropriate solutions by looking back in time to marry traditional building techniques with contemporary methods of construction. The layout comes in the form of a basic cluster of houses around a common patio. Groups of these colourful clusters form the base for large communities. We strongly believe that a combination of thorough research, local knowledge and professional experience is crucial to develop an effective and financially viable scheme for countries in need of large scale housing development. AMBS prepared this study based on building high density housing that addresses; social identity and sense of community, environment and sustainability, encouraging local growth and living standards, construction cost and timing and plot efficiency.
