The proposed development to be known as The Bride will be located in Basra, Iraq where the Euphrates and Tigris rivers meet. This development is of vital importance to the future of the city of Basra, as an opportunity to create a major landmark to matchthe historical and symbolic importance of its site. The Bride will be a beacon for the Middle East as the first net-zero vertical city in the world. The Bride is the product of the collaboration between AMBS Architects and global management, engineering and development consultancy Mott Macdonald. The founding design concept was to develop a vertical city capable of net-zero annual energy consumption, with a view to being the most energy efficient super-tall structure in the world. The brief for the Bride developed into four conjoined towers and a central plaza. Tower 1 is shaded by a 590,000m x 80m glazed canopy known as the veil.
